Hayfever medication changes from 1.3.2018


Spring is coming. Once again, the hayfever season is approaching.

If you require medication for your hayfever, and you got a prescription last year from the surgery, then you need to be aware of some changes;


The following medicines for hayfever treatment will no longer be supplied on NHS prescriptions. You can purchase these medicines from your local chemist. If you do not pay for your prescriptions you can get most of these medicines for free using Pharmacy First Service, after consulting with the pharmacist at your local chemist.


Acrivastine 8mg Capsules (Benadryl) – Not available on Pharmacy First Service

Cetirizine 10mg Tablets (Zirtek)

Cetirizine 1mg/1ml Oral Solution (Zirtek)

Chlorphenamine 4mg Tablet (Priton)

Chlorphenamine 2mg/5ml Oral solution (Piriton)

Loratadine 10mg Tablets (Clarityn)

Loratadine 5mg/5ml Oral Solution (Clarityn)


Nasal Sprays

Beclometasone 50mcg/dose Nasal spray (Beconase/Nasobec)

Fluticasone 50mcg/dose Nasal Spray (Flixonase/Pirinase) - Not available on Pharmacy First Service


Eye Drops

Sodium Cromoglicate 2% eye drops

If you have never had a prescription from the surgery for hayfever medication then you must make an appointment with the doctor or nurse to discuss the best treatment for you.
